One year anniversary of my blog “Wandering Money Pig”: Thank you readers!

Last week of December 2021 marks the one year anniversary of this blog. I had created this blog for two reasons: 1) give my nieces/nephews (and anyone else) useful information on how to reach financial independence and to retire early and 2) document my travels as well as anything else that comes to my mind after retirement so readers can have a better understanding of what to expect after retirement.
I didn’t think anyone (outside of my family) would actually read any of my posts when I first posted my blog, but to my surprise, people started to read them! For that, I thank you readers. It gives me so much motivation when I know someone out there is reading what I write, which hopefully can help them in their journey to FIRE (financial independence retire early).
One other reason why I started this blog was because I wanted to write to satisfy my need to be creative. I’ve always enjoyed creating something out of nothing, writing songs, composing music for example. I found it gives me a natural high when I’m actively creating or writing…
For the post photo above, I purposely selected a photo from our first month long trip to Ocean City (MD) as that trip would mark the true beginning of our early retirement. Just seeing that photo made me feel nostalgic, and I couldn’t believe it’s been over a year since that trip…
During the first year of this blog, I’ve covered topics ranging from financial tools, basic finance knowledge, what it’s like to be retired, as well as travel related posts. I hope to continue that tradition in the second year of this blog.
Traveling to new places is always something I look forward to as I get inspired to write after exploring the culture, the people, and of course nature! I can’t emphasize enough how important traveling has been to my psyche. It gives me purpose, and it gives me direction after early retirement.
If I was staying in one place, with my wandering gene, I would in short, be pulling my hair out. Traveling and sharing those places is a true passion of mine, along with talking about finance related stuff. I truly hope I can continue this going forth, and I really wish all my readers can hop along for the ride…
Writing for this blog has given me a true hobby and a purpose each day. I’m often writing in the mornings after breakfast, and it has given me a schedule that I would follow on a typical day. There are days when I would write for hours, seemingly unaware of the time. In Atlantic Beach (NC), I think I wrote throughout the day as I was really in the zone. I had so many topics to cover, and I was really happy writing.
Prior to creating this blog, I had hit a wall after retiring. I felt bored and aimless after 4 months of early retirement, just hitting the internet and streaming YouTube videos. Thanks to this blog, I feel purposeful and no longer only idling my time away. I’m glad I started this blog!
One of the biggest decisions I had to make when I started this blog was about the comment section. Namely, whether to open up the comment section to readers or not.
Prior to creating this site, I had researched different blogging sites about the pros and cons of comment sections. In the end, I decided to forgo the comment section so I can just concentrate on creating content, rather than tie up my time replying to comments/moderating comments all day.
I realized it may have been a controversial decision, but to this day, I still stand by it. A blog site is a personal experience of the creator, and contains beliefs and opinions of the author that may or may not be ‘right’ for everyone.
Know that I write these posts to document how this author was able to retire early. There are possibly millions of ways one can do the same thing, but I can only offer the readers what I went through and am going through living my early retirement.
I would like my readers to know that I believe content is more important than getting confirmation, praise, or complaints from our readers. I’m hoping this site offers our readers unique content which help them on their journey to become financially independent.
Thank you readers for your support. Please email me if you have any comments, questions, complaints, or praises? Email address is: WanderingMoneyPig@gmail.com
I will reply back but please be patient if I’m a bit slow…
Sincerely,
Jake
