Review of Chateau at Coindre Hall, Huntington, Long Island, NY: A dog friendly park!

View of the Huntington Harbor

My wife and I wanted to look for a park on Long Island that was both beautiful and dog friendly, so all of us, including our family (our parents) and our Pomeranian dog Toby can enjoy.  Luckily, we found such a park in the town of Huntington, Long Island.

Chateau at Coindre Hall was built in 1912 modeled after a medieval French chateau.  It boasts 80,000 square feet of living space, which is currently put to good use as a popular wedding/reception venue.  Overlooking the Huntington Harbor, Chateau at Coindre Hall almost feels as if you’re in Europe somewhere.

Besides being used as a popular wedding venue, the grounds are used as a popular dog park as well!

We arrived at the Chateau around 11 a.m. and were greeted by the majestic chateau and its circular driveway, befitting a castle.  Parking was behind the chateau, and there were plenty of parking spots available.

We marveled at the beautiful scenery all around us.  As impressive as the chateau was, we were more impressed by its natural beauty.

We first ate our lunch (takeout as usual) inside of our car overlooking the beautiful grounds and the waters.  We saw rolling hills overlooking the Huntington Harbor.  We saw what looked to be a separate beach house near the harbor area.  We also saw plenty of dogs freely running around, sniffing each other, and having the time of their lives!

After lunch, we started to walk down towards the harbor area.  Many dogs came by Toby to say hello.  As usual, Toby wasn’t exactly in the mood to say hello.  Instead, he started to hide behind us as if telling us that he’s had enough of other dogs!

He wanted to explore the area.  We gladly obliged.

We saw other dogs with their leashes off, so we did the same.  At first, Toby wasn’t sure what to make of this and why we unleashed his collar.  For few seconds, he would freeze then just look at us inquisitively.  This was an unusual thing for him, as we rarely, if ever, let his leash go free.

After initial trepidation, we motioned for him to come.  He slowly and begrudgingly started towards us.  After I started to jog, he did the same.  Once that started, he really started to run at full speed!

He would run around us and hop up and down, expressing his pure happiness at that moment.  We were happy to see him enjoy the park.

Toby having a good time!
Toby had this stylish shirt at first, but took it off as he got hot…

We walked towards the harbor area to check out the waterfront and the beach house.  We absolutely loved the views of the harbor and the marina.

We took few minutes to just enjoy the bucolic surroundings and for some peace and quiet!

After enjoying the area, we headed back up towards the chateau.  There was a wedding going on that night, and we saw staff busy making preparations for that event.  The staff was nice enough to let us use the restroom.  We got to see the beautifully decorated interior of the foyer and the reception area, as well as the restroom that wouldn’t be out of place in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.”

All in all, we were so happy we found this gem on Long Island.  All of us enjoyed our time there and we will always be grateful it is dog friendly!  One more thing:  thank you staff at the chateau who let us use the restroom!

Thank you all for reading!
